New single Fall Away is an homage to 90s alternative acts, and with haunting minor key guitar and slow beats, songwriter, guitarist and vocalist Luis adds a modern, indie twist to his new project, The Buddha Visions. With an impressive vocal range and poignant melodies, Fall Away is a beautiful yet powerful piece of alt-rock.

Shaking things up with different drum patterns and interweaving melodic licks within the main beat, Fall Away derives its heaviness not from musical distortion but from emotional weight. Laid-back and minimalist in the verses, this song saves its power for a big chorus which evokes one of The Buddha Visions’ influences, Radiohead, from the earlier The Bends, as well as the softer moments of bands like REM. In addition, The Buddha Visions is inspired by acts like The Divine Comedy and David Bowie, among others. This project borrows from broad traditions whilst adding its own style, with soaring vocals and a distinctive edge. Balancing picked, clean guitar and the ongoing rhythm of strummed chords, Fall Away hits an emotional sweet spot and Luis’ vocal style blends seamlessly.

With subtle production and lyrics which evoke a sense of both chaos and relief, Fall Away plays its cards wisely to craft a tense emotional build up with distortion only kicking in towards the end of the song. The Buddha Visions knows that musical spice is best used in moderation, and steps back to allow the melody and emotion of the song to take centre stage. For all those missing the classic melancholy sound of 90s alternative rock, or hoping for a twist on the modern indie scene, Fall Away is a huge track with slow burning energy and emotional catharsis.
